BRAND NEW TO FARGO PLAYERS

If a player has zero record at all, we need to start them somewhere in order to make a profile. We will ask questions and gather as much information as possible, consider the division they are in and take a ‘best guess.’

This player’s performance will be observed as they gain games in the system. Adjustments will be made to follow the performance. If there was a major error in the ‘guess’, we will fix it not only in the starter rating but also in the past scoresheets. For example, if a player gets started as a 300 because we were told that they are brand new and have no experience and then they show up and are winning lots of games, running 6-7 balls in a turn - they are clearly not a 300 Fargo. So on the nights of play that happened, their team would have been handicapped unfairly. This situation happens very, very rarely. But we reserve the right to adjust things if this situation occurs.

We like to see a reasonable amount of data before making adjustments. Everyone has those outstanding nights and those horrific nights. One night of play doesn’t define a player’s ability. So don’t worry too much if a 300 Fargo player has the best night of their life one day nor be surprised if a 500 Fargo loses all their games. Both things can and do happen. It all evens out over time!

If players have a CSR or CPA rating, we refer to that to set the starter rating. The CSR is generally believed to be approximately 1200 more than your Fargo rating.

PRELIMINARY FARGO PLAYERS

Preliminary Fargo players are those with less than 200 Games in the system. For these players, the Starter Rating has influence on the FargoRate. It has MORE influence the fewer games they have and gradually has less and less influence as they get closer to the 200 game mark at which point it has ZERO influence. Your Starter Rating has absolutely no effect - it is 100% the player’s performance.

A player’s starter rating should be within 15-20pts of their performance at all times. As a player improves, the starter rating is increased to stick with the performance. Likewise if the starter was too high, the starter will be decreased to stick with performance. 250 is the lowest starter rating possible.

The league reviews all our preliminary Fargo players on a regular basis to maintain this. If it is too high or too low, it is pulling the player Fargo up or down artificially. Once the player hits 200 games, the starter is no longer relevant so if it isn’t within a reasonable range, the Fargo will SNAP up (or down) suddenly. This causes a ripple effect out into the ocean of Fargo data and all the players that they have played recently will be effected. Ever wonder why your Fargo went up or down a few points that doesn’t seem to correlate with your performance? It’s because a prior opponents Fargo went up or down. Fargo changes in tiny increments every day, even when you aren’t playing.
